General information only

What you should know

Workers should be paid the wages to which they are entitled under their employment terms and Sierra Leonean law. The Employment Act, 2023 provides protections relating to wages, the national minimum wage, permitted deductions and written particulars of employment.

Keep copies of your employment agreement, pay statements, attendance records and communications about wages. If salary, overtime or other agreed remuneration is withheld or improperly deducted, raise the issue in writing and seek advice if it is not resolved.

Your circumstances matter.

Legal rights and available remedies depend on the facts of each situation. Contact A4A if you need advice about how the law applies to you.

When to seek help

If you are unsure how the law applies to your circumstances, if your rights may have been infringed, or if you have been arrested, detained, threatened or placed at immediate risk, seek legal assistance.
